COMPUTER LABS - $150K Needed for Overhaul

Computers are at the heart of modern life and an essential part of the educational process. To address the needs of BG students, the school must completely overhaul three computer labs at the cost of $150,000.

The average desktop PC has a functional lifespan of roughly two to five years. Newer versions of software dictate compatibility with the hardware components; either they don't have enough space to store their files or don't meet the requirements for the latest software. Upgrading current computers at BG is not an option. The three computer at BG labs must be completely redone in the next few years.

In 1996, Anthony and Carolyn Misciagna made a major difference in the education of BG students when they donated more than $127,000 to establish the Misciagna Technology Center at the school.

Their daughter Caroline Sussman stated: "My parents believed in the importance and obligation of making contributions to charitable organizations which they felt were providing valuable services and/or advancing some cause that was meaningful. They also felt strongly that charity should begin at home. One such contribution was to Bishop Guilfoyle to fund a computer science center in the 1990s. My mother always embraced technology. My father, not so much, but he understood that technology created a requirement for a new set of skills that students would need to have in order to gain admission to top universities like his alma mater, Cornell. That is the reason he decided to fund the computer center at BG."

We commend the Misciagna family for providing thousands of BG students the opportunity to learn the necessary computer skills to excel academically.

Can you help us renovate our computer labs? You can send your tax-deductible contribution made payable to Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School to the Office of Development & Alumni Relations, reference Computer Lab Renovation.
