The Bishop Guilfoyle Academy School Counseling Office partners with families to support students’ personal, social, and academic growth throughout high school. Counselors work closely with students and parents to ensure each child is supported, prepared, and confident in their next steps.

The program plays a vital role in guiding students through course planning, college admissions, and future career pathways.

Individual Counseling
Students have access to individual meetings with a counselor to discuss academic planning, social or emotional concerns, college preparation, and future goals.

Counselors provide guidance in areas such as:

  • Academic progress and course selection
  • College admissions planning
  • Career exploration
  • Stress management and peer relationships
  • Personal growth and decision-making

Classroom Guidance Lessons
Students participate in age-appropriate guidance lessons designed to build strong academic habits and life skills.

Sample topics include:

Freshman: Transition to High School; Study Skills; Digital Citizenship

Sophomore: Career Exploration; Healthy Relationships; Goal Setting

Junior: SAT/ACT Planning; College Research; Interview Skills

Senior: College Applications; Letters of Recommendation; Life After High School

Small-Group Counseling
When appropriate, small-group counseling provides additional support in areas such as:

  • Time management and organization
  • Stress and anxiety management
  • Social skills development
  • Coping with change or loss

Confidentiality
Student conversations with counselors are confidential, with limited exceptions required by law when safety concerns arise. These policies follow Bishop Guilfoyle Academy procedures and Pennsylvania mandated reporting requirements.
